Jason Brook, a native of Northern Maine, began his flute studies at age 17 after becoming an accomplished clarinetist. He went on to study flute performance at the University of Southern Maine, spending his first semester learning from Catherine Payne, who is now currently piccoloist with the San Francisco Symphony. He then studied with esteemed New England flute pedagogue Jean Rosenblum, a graduate of Oberlin where she studied with famed flutist Michel DeBost. Jason earned principal spots in the University of Southern Maine Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and piccoloist in the Southern Maine Symphony at USM. Jason currently resides in New York City, where he teaches privately and coaches woodwinds with the Interschool Orchestras of New York and is Assistant Director of Music at French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts -the country’s largest and most comprehensive non-competitive performing arts camp for children ages 7-17, where he teaches flute, performs and coaches in pit orchestras and assists in all music department operations. Jason also performs regularly as a freelance flutist, and theatrical woodwind doubler (Flutes, Clarinets, Saxophones) for musical theatres around NYC with more than 100 productions under his belt. Jason currently studies flute frequently with world renowned flutist Laurel Zucker, who also spends 2-3 weeks each summer at French Woods Festival.
