329 student musicians now perform with one of ISO’s nine ensembles! This is a record number in our 41-year history. The most growth has been in the entry-level orchestras. In fact, there are so many students in these groups, that they can no longer fit together on the stage at Symphony Space. Instead, Queens East and Trinity Florentine Orchestras will perform together and Turtle Bay and Morningside Orchestras will pair up for the May performance.
Not surprisingly, the other record we just set is in the amount of financial aid awarded: $108,000 this season alone. Please consider making a donation. It’s only by everyone pulling together that we are able to include every child who wants to make music with us!
Guests at the Monday, April 15 Gala Celebration will enjoy an evening of dinner, dancing, and an auction while helping to provide critical financial aid and scholarships for more than half of ISO’s students.
At the Gala, ISO will honor two remarkable musicians. Anthony McGill, principal clarinetist with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, will receive the Education Award, and James Gaffigan, music director of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award.

“What can I do to make the ISO experience more valuable and enjoyable for every student?” That’s the question all of us at ISO ask ourselves every day. This season, we answered that question with the founding of new ensembles (Queens East Orchestra and ISO Flutes), resumed a regular schedule of tours (Symphonic Band to D.C. in February), and made admission to the winter concerts free.
We want all of our students to have unequaled opportunities to make music together. And just as importantly, we must make sure that all children who come to us can participate, regardless of their families’ financial situation.
Tuition fees cover only two-thirds of the actual cost of providing our programs for each child, so every one of our 310 students receives a critical subsidy. But half of our students cannot afford the tuition fees, so we provide scholarships and need-based financial aid to more than 150 of them.
Please help us keep ISO’s programs available to every child who comes to us by making a contribution today. You’ll also be keeping dreams alive for these talented young musicians.

We are so pleased to introduce our new logo. The multiple shapes represent the many groups that make up InterSchool Orchestras and the playful type beautifully reflects the energy of our young musicians. It was designed by Flyleaf Creative.
